With nearly 10 years of combined studio experience, we’ve designed Wonderhaus around the things that matter most to us: accurate monitoring that knocks our socks off, an emphasis on live tracking, a slew of vintage instruments and amps for instant inspiration, and a comfortable space that feels like home.
We’ve designed this space with our core values of community, collaboration, and fun in mind. We believe that artists perform better when they feel excited about the record they’re making and the sounds they’re getting, and that philosophy is deeply ingrained in every element of this studio.
The centerpiece of the control room is our 1990 DDA Profile Console. Made to be an “SSL killer” by Dave Dearden, it has 32 channels switchable between mic/line inputs + 24 more channels for returns and 24! busses. It is so capable that we can have an entire multi-day session using all the instruments & gear in the studio up on the console at the same time.
We employ a hybrid workflow (when recording to PT, when recording to 16-track tape it’s all analog, baby!), using our UAD Apollo 16 interfaces to track through any UAD plugin in addition to our analog outboard gear.
We take the time to get the finished sound on the way in so that by the time you come back into the control room, you’ll be hearing a real mix.
We have 3 1/2 recording rooms at Wonderhaus. The main live room is small, but mighty— we’ve already recorded both heavy metal and acoustic jazz bands playing live together here.
Along with an isolation booth and our gear hallway (Wonderhaus’ House of Wonders), we can record an entire band playing together with as much or as little bleed as we want. Most of our drum sets and amplifiers are in here, ready to plug in and crank up (watch out for that Selmer Treble N Bass, it’ll tear your head off).
We believe that the studio should be your favorite place to listen to music. After all, it’s where you’ll spend hours perseverating over each detail of your record! If you’re going to submit to the process of record-making, you should enjoy what you’re listening to and have the confidence that you’re making the right decisions. We built our listening environment around our Ocean Way HR4S system with dual S12A Subs, which fill the room with tight, impactful bass while providing mix engineers with accurate balance and imaging information.
But this room is not only about listening; you’ll regularly find us recording electric guitars and piano in here too! Nothing beats the feeling of cranking up a vintage amp in the other room and getting to record standing behind the console - no headphones required! We’ve even been known to run guitars through a fuzz pedal and straight into the console for ample Jimmy Page vibes.
Wonderhaus is conveniently located in Atwater Village, and a five minute walk to a wide variety of restaurants, shopping, and the revered LA venues Club Tee Gee and Zebulon. With all of Glendale, Silverlake, and Los Feliz just minutes away by car, you have easy access to just about any food or drink that tickles your fancy. Plus, you will have no worries about someone taking your prime parking spot when you return to the studio - we have plenty of free parking out front!
